Foreign workers for transport and drivers
Road freight, passenger transport and distribution companies are looking for professional drivers, and the shortage is felt across the country. Truck driver (road freight), bus driver (road passenger transport), articulated lorry driver and car and van driver are on the Lista ocupațiilor deficitare (List of shortage occupations) approved by MMFTSS Order no. 1.073/2026. We recruit experienced drivers from Nepal, Sri Lanka, India, the Philippines, Vietnam and many other countries in Asia, Africa and other regions; for each candidate the authorisation requirements (licence, professional certificate) are checked on the filing date, because without documents recognised in Romania the driver cannot drive.

What employers in transport and drivers usually ask for
- Truck drivers for domestic and international transport, with long periods away from base; van drivers for urban distribution.
- Indefinite-term contracts; employers look for stable drivers with a clean record.
- Schedule in line with driving and rest time regulations (tachograph), with daily allowances for trips.
- Accommodation provided by the employer at the base between trips or in the company's town.
- Alongside drivers: auxiliary staff (couriers, handlers, vehicle washers, mechanics) for the fleet.
Specific employer obligations
- The authorisation requirements (licence, professional certificate) are checked on the filing date: driving licence for the required category, recognised or exchanged in Romania under the rules in force, and, for freight/passenger transport, the professional certificate (CPC) and the tachograph card.
- Until documents recognised in Romania are obtained, the driver cannot drive vehicles on public roads; the training and examination period must be included in the planning.
- Criminal record from the country of origin, translated and legalised (mandatory for the visa) and driving history presented by the candidate.
- Medical and psychological clearance for professional drivers, in accordance with road traffic legislation.
- Occupational health and safety (SSM) training in a language the worker understands (loading, securing cargo, working at the loading dock) and protective equipment provided by the employer.
- Basic English for communication with dispatch and customers; Romanian courses provided by the employer (minimum 6 months, 6 hours per week).

Frequently asked questions, Transport and drivers
Not automatically. The occupation is on the shortage list, but the right to drive depends on the recognition or exchange of the driving licence and on obtaining the professional certificate and the tachograph card, in accordance with the road traffic regulations in force. We check the authorisation requirements (licence, professional certificate) on the filing date and tell you exactly which steps are needed in Romania before the driver can get behind the wheel.
The law does not allow the agency to collect money from the worker for placement. Professional authorisation costs are agreed between the employer and the worker in the firm job offer and in the contract; usually the employer bears them as an investment in the employee. We recommend budgeting for them from the start in the recruitment budget.
Yes, if the driver holds the residence and work permit in Romania and the necessary professional documents (certificate, tachograph card, driver attestation for Community transport companies where required). Trips to other EU states are made under the contract with the Romanian employer, in compliance with the posting rules applicable to carriers.
At least the national gross minimum base salary guaranteed in payment: 4,325 lei gross from 1 July 2026 (GD 146/2026), for a full-time contract. The salary must be paid into the worker's bank account, not in cash. Allowances, overtime and any bonuses apply in the same way as for Romanian employees.
A full-time individual employment contract, for an indefinite or fixed term, registered in REGES-ONLINE before the cerere unică (single application) is filed. The contract is bilingual: in Romanian and in the language of the country of origin or in an international language the worker understands (usually English). The contract must contain the elements of the ofertă fermă (firm job offer): salary, working hours, accommodation, transport.
Not in the first 6 months from the start of the activity (registered in REGES-ONLINE). After 6 months and up to 2 years, a change of employer can only be made through the placement agency that is a party to the placement contract. Exception: serious breach of obligations by the employer (art. 40 of GEO 32/2026).
